Program:

INDIE PUBLISHING

Publishing your first book is a daunting task. From knowing where and how to publish, available formats, ISBNs, as well as all the ways to build your brand and get your name out there, where does an independent author begin? In this workshop, we’ll look at options and steps that provide indie authors with a strong foundation for their publishing career before you hit publish on your first (or fifth) book.

This workshop explores the sometimes overwhelming choices that indie authors face when deciding to go the independent publishing route rather than traditional. We’ll discuss how to research your audience, choosing the right publishing source for you, setting up your book and protecting your Intellectual Property, and how to find readers and get your name out there. Attendees leaving this workshop will have an understanding of where to begin and a variety of resources and directions that will help guide them through the indie publishing process.

Meg Becker is an independent author and screenwriter with fourteen published titles, including The Butterflies Series. She received her degree in Creative Writing from The University of Kansas and was nominated for The Best in KC 2025 Best Local Author. She is very passionate about our local book, film, and theater communities and thrives on helping other indie authors take that first step.
